6 Sep -- Claws and his
fellow '07 fledgling, Patience (yellow dots on the map), have taken
off and are moving south in a hurry. Claws started his migration between 2
and 3PM on the 4th. He flew 170 miles and spent the night south of
Virginia Beach and Norfolk. On the 5th he was moving south again at 3PM.
He moved about 80 miles south and spent the night and next morning south
of Lake Matamuskeet, on the north shore of Pamlico Sound.
On the 6th he took off again around 2PM and
headed south out over the Atlantic, heading for Florida. By 10PM he had
flown 186 miles and was 430 miles from home..
In a truly remarkable coincidence, he and
Patience were less than 20 miles apart around 6PM.
Because Patience has an old-fashioned (non-GPS)
transmitter, we don't know much of the details of her trip. She probably
left on the 4th. On the 5th she out on North Carolina's Outer Banks. She
is paralleling Claws en route to Florida.
