6 Oct 2006: Moshup
is moving right along. He moved from New Jersey down to the eastern shore
of Chesapeake Bay on the 7th (with his radio off). He seems to have made a
bit of a road trip down the shore of the Chesapeake, moving about 50 km
south and then returning to his roost from the 7th. He moved south on the
8th. The two points north of Cape Charles are about noon on the 8th. On
the 9th we have him on the northern reaches of North Carolina's Outer
Banks. Our first fix for him in North Carolina was around noon on the 9th
near Manteo.
He probably crossed the mouth of Chesapeake Bay on the 8th. This last
leg of the trip from his first point in Maryland (the 10/7-8 point)
was 196 mi (315 km). He is 563 mi. (906 km) from home (as the Osprey
flies). Starting from his staging area in CT, he's averaging 113 mi/day
(181 km/day), which is pretty much the norm.
